Stat5 and Prostate Cancer
It has been found recently that nuclear stat5 over-expression could lead to the spread of prostate cancer to the other organs of the body. Stat proteins are found to be one of the key factors that could cause the development of oncogenesis. According to a latest research with mice it came to light that Stat5 is the primary reason to push the spreading of prostate cancer. Until now it was known that Stat5 was the reason for tumors but its role in spreading the cancer of prostate came to be known only recently. Stat5 (Signal Transduction and Transcription) proteins are the cause factor to alter the cell growth, differentiate it, and allow the abnormal cells to survive.
Stat5 is a protein that can regulate the expression of other genes and patients who were treated with prostate cancer were found to have prostate cancer again and this recurrence of prostate cancer was due to the active role of Stat5. Moreover patients with high amount of stat5 protein were more resistant to hormone therapy. Based upon a research in mice, prostate cancer was brought under control after stat5 was blocked completely and also there was no recurrence of prostate cancer.
The main cause for the prostate cancer cells to survive and multiply was Stat5 proteins. Rearrangement of the cytoskeleton of the prostate cancer cells also took place with the help of stat5. In addition this protein suppressed the binding of cells naturally and became a vital agent in abnormal development of cells. Mice which had over expression Stat5 were tested by injecting prostate cancer cells, readily the abnormal cells started to spread to vital organs like the liver, lungs, lymph nodes, bones and too many other organs. The findings with the mice also revealed that stat5 played an important role in the metastatic progression of human prostate cancer cells.
Prostate is a deadly killer disease that is increasing alarmingly all over the world; it can change the life style of a person completely. The treatments for prostate cancer resulted in unwanted side effects which made the patients suffer more, along with the deadly disease.
Males who were affected with prostate cancer could not hold back urine for a long time or pass urine without an uninterrupted flow. Moreover it affected the sex life of the victims, they could not maintain an erection nor could have a strong erection. As prostate cancer is a deadly disease, prevention is the best way to protect you. Regular screening of PSA can help you to rule out the disease at an early stage.
